Bought a new x51 R2 with an Radeon R9 270X graphics card for my birthday on March 25th. Received it on the 1st of April and it would not boot upon taking it out of the box. I had to do a clean install of Win 8.1 in order to get the computer to even boot. After hours of tinkering around with it, found that the drivers from AMD for it will not install and that was what was causing it to halt while booting. I tried various fixes for three days. The computer recognizes the video card as an Intel piece of hardware. I have tried disabling it, and uninstalling it in Control Panel and after reboot I still cannot get the AMD drivers to load. I stopped Win from automatically installing any drivers so it just loads a generic video driver. While installing AMD drivers the screen will go black and the computer will go into some sort of suspend mode and be completely unresponsive. After the third day of tinkering I did something and got the drivers to install. All I remember is that I had the generic display disabled, I installed all of the AMD components except the driver, and then installed the driver last and it took. Computer worked correctly for about two weeks. While playing Thief and Hitman, the computer would crash repeatedly. After one of the crashes computer wouldn't reboot at all. Ran a hardware test and the video memory failed. Awaiting a technician to come and replace both the motherboard and the video card. In the mean time, I have bright red streaks up and down my screen. After running the hardware test I did a factory restore. Again computer wouldn't boot because the factory image comes loaded with the AMD drivers. So had to do another clean install of Win 8.1 in order to get the computer to even boot. So I'm back to square one. I've applied all updates except for video drivers but cannot get the AMD drivers to take. Same problem as before; while installing the driver, screen goes black and computer goes into suspend mode. I have to power off and then turn it back on. I have tried installing all of the AMD software except the driver and then the driver like I did before but the driver won't take. I have disabled all services on start up that have to do with intel graphics and still nothing. Can't find much on the web. I suspect that it's a Win 8 & AMD driver compatibility issue but I'm not sure. At this point I've spent a month trying to get a new PC to work right. Even if the tech does replace the mobo and the video card, if I can't get the drivers to load it doesn't do me much good. I'm probably going to return it if I can't get something figured out rather quickly.
