Hello, I recently purchased an Alienware 14 from Costco with the following specs.
Processor & Memory:
- Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ Processor at 2.4GHz
- 16GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz
Drives:
- 750GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
- DVDRW (Reads & Writes to DVD/CD)
Operating System:
- Microsoft® Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
Graphics & Video:
- 14.0" WLED FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-Glare Display
- 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M
Communications:
- Killer NIC 1202 802.11n WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0
- 2.0MP webcam with digital microphone array
As soon as I got the laptop, and started using it without installing any additional drivers or updates, moving the laptop would result in a flickering screen, that would go into a WHITE->BLUE->GREEN->RED full screen rotation. I updated all the drivers and the problem seemed to go away temporarily.
I just purchased a new solid state drive and reinstalled windows 8 and all the drivers and the problem happened again. The only way I could get the screen to work again was to lower and raise the laptop aggressively.
As it seemed to be tied into motion, I thought to remove the "stmicroelectronics 3-axis accelerometer"
Since I did that, the problem seems to be resolved, although its only been one day. I want to know if this is a known issue and why this problem seems to happen right out of the box with only a few hours of use. Does Alienware/Dell do any testing on there products? Seems pretty ridiculous for a >1K laptop that there is a driver issue right out of the box.
Thanks for any help
